I’ve been working on this blog post for quite a while now. Every wedding I have the honor and privilege of shooting is special. Melissa and Owen’s gorgeous wedding day was no exception! I’ve known Melissa since I shot her sister Kati’s wedding back in 2010. Along the way Melissa has been such an amazing support to me – and has referred me to many other brides – so I feel like I’ve gotten to know her family and friends over these last 8 years! Melissa and Owen are also exceptionally fantastic people too! Not only are they funny and fun to be around, are amazing parents to two ADORABLE fur babies, kick some major butt running and cycling, but they also do SO much for charity. They are huge supporters of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and The Alzheimers Association are especially important to them – so if you are looking for a great charity to support – check them out!
Melissa and Owen wanted a fun, laid back, easy going day – and that is exactly what they had! They opted to tie the knot at the Frankenmuth Brewery which just happens to be America’s oldest Microbrewery. It is a beautiful place, with great food, and of course – excellent beer. I’m a huge fan of Frankenmuth – so I couldn’t have been more thrilled when I got Melissa’s message that they had booked their event venue!
Melissa and Owen were an absolute DREAM to photograph on their wedding day. They told me from the beginning – “we will give you as much time as you want for photos” which to a photographer is like Angels coming down and singing a little Hallelujah! They opted against having a wedding party as well, they wanted the day to be as simple and easy as possible – and to get to spend time together that day. (ummmm YAY!) So we started their day off with yummy lattes from the local coffee shop, took the getting ready photos, and then did a beautiful first look. They we were able to walk around downtown Frankenmuth for beautiful couples photos.
We met Melissa and Owen’s family back at the Frankenmuth Brewrey for family photos, and then in an exceptionally touching ceremony Melissa’s brother-in-law performed the ceremony. Rev Z as he likes to be called – is one of the funniest, well written guys you will ever meet. He had the perfect balance of funny, sweet, touching, and fantastic in their ceremony. After that, it was all fun – as the couple was able to enjoy a great night of dancing, eating, and hanging out with their closest friends and family. And they indulged me a little, and we took some fantastic shots around the Frankenmuth Brewery and outside at sunset. The details were beautiful, the guest were awesome, it was an all around incredible day!
Mel and Owen – I sincerely loved working with you, and I’m so glad that I can now call you friends. You two are an inspiration to me every day – and I can’t wait to see what amazing things are in store for your future together! xoxo Marlaina
